Christopher Martin Avery

Christopher Martin Avery of Carnelian Bay, California passed away unexpectedly in at home on April 6, 2025. Christopher Martin Avery, son of Raymond and Helen Avery and brother to Susan, was born on October 13, 1972 in Tennessee. Born into an active duty Navy family, Chris lived in many places during his early years until his father’s retirement. He completed elementary and middle school in Biggs, California and graduated from high school in Tehachapi, California. Chris was always full of energy and excitement as a kid. He enjoyed his tire swing and treehouse fort. He also enjoyed countless hours playing outdoors and spending time with neighborhood friends. He also embraced his artwork assignments and created amazing drawings and paintings. Chris was also very active in sports growing up. He played in youth soccer and football leagues as well as excelled in basketball. Chris would pass his love of the outdoors, arts, and adventure down to his twin daughters, Zion and Jacqueline (Jackie) when he had them in 2003 with Jessica Avery. Chris worked many jobs throughout his life. Starting out as a grocery bagger in high school, he looked to better career opportunities and got his commercial license at a young age. He drove semi trucks and made deliveries. Eventually, he found his calling in public works and dedicated his career to public service. He would later move to Lake Tahoe and raise his kids with his sister and brother-in-law in Carnelian Bay. Chris was dependable and one of the hardest working people you’d meet, always pushing himself to do his best and achieve more working at North Tahoe PUD and CalTrans. When Chris wasn’t working, he was spending time with his family and “living the dream”. Chris loved riding his Harley, hiking, beach days on the lake, and hitting the gym. Any task Chris did he would put his full effort into, always showing up for others even if he was run down. He was also quite the adventurer, making sure every family vacation was more exciting and thrilling than the last. One of the first vacations will never be forgotten was when Chris took his family to see the trees of Sequoia National Park and the majesty of Kings Canyon. He would later take them to see wonders such as Yosemite National Park. Chris kept this adventurousness in practice at home as he loved hiking, fishing, and any chance to be in nature that he could. His daughters cherish the time they got to spend with their father growing up, going to the movies, on walks with their dog Thor, and so many other beautiful memories. Some of Zion and Jackie’s favorite memories with their dad were their family dinners. Every night from elementary to high school they would sit and eat with each other and catch up on what they did that day, what they learned, and make funny connections. Chris was always,” sitting in the middle of two conversations”, as he said and always managed to listen and respond to both. Chris had always loved Shar Peis, owning three by the time the girls were born, named Susie, Princess and Biggie. Over time they passed away. In 2011, he got the family’s beloved dog, Thor. Loyal to his owner, Chris would call him his shadow during his younger years, following Chris everywhere and standing as close as possible to him while in the car. Days following Chris’s death, Thor joined him on April 10, 2025, continuing to be Chris’s shadow. Christopher is survived by his sister, Susan Griffith, brother-in-law James Griffith, parents Helen and Raymond Avery, and daughters Jaqueline and Zion. His life was too short and he is desperately missed and will always be remembered as a loving and supportive father and friend. There will be a Celebration of Life held in the Summer
