March 29, 1946 - September 13, 2021
On Monday, September 13, 2021, Marilyn Saldine, loving mother, grandmother and friend, passed away at age 75. Marilyn was born on March 29, 1946 in Canton, Ohio to Harold and Alice Masters. She received her degree in Business and Economics from Manchester University in Indiana and practiced actuarials and bookkeeping for 40 years. Marilyn moved from Ohio to Sacramento in 1968 with her first husband David Snyder and together they had one daughter, Michelle “Shelly” Snyder (Shykowski). On August 25, 1984, she married Stephen J. Saldine. And together they raised one daughter, Emily Saldine. Marilyn is survived by her daughter Shelly Shykowski, son-in-law Jason Shykowski and their four children Bailey Cossentine (Erik), Meagan Stanley (Mark), Libbie Shykowski, Luke Shykowski and her great grandson, Matheson Cossentine. She is also survived by her daughter Emily Saldine Barrett, her son-in-law Grant Barrett, sister-in-law Kristin Saldine and a large community of friends. Marilyn had a passion for people, her family, and Jesus. She spent her life serving others with her contagious joy. She loved serving in the church, and taught Sunday school for over 25 years. Along with serving the church, whether it was a silly and sweet children’s song or an old hymn, Marilyn was always ready to worship the Lord with song. Her favorite hymn was “Great is Thy Faithfulness”, and her outlook on life truly embodied this song. Marilyn was no stranger to the heartache of grief and loss. She tragically lost her father and brother in a drowning accident when she was 16 years old. Her husband, Steve, also unexpectedly passed away at the young age of 40 years old. Despite the tragedies faced, she chose to see God’s faithfulness in all things and used her experience with grief to speak into the lives of others. She served as a Grief Share leader, leading small groups through their darkest moments for over 10 years. Her ability to always maintain a posture of service and ministry in all circumstances is a legacy that will live on in the lives of all who knew her for years to come. Beyond serving and loving her church, Marilyn was tirelessly and faithfully devoted to her family. She devoted herself to teaching her daughters and grandkids about how to live a fulfilling and joyous life. A big way she demonstrated this was through cooking. She firmly believed that food brought people together. She spent hours teaching her grandkids how to cook, bake and demonstrate love for others through food. Undoubtedly, Marilyn’s kindness, joy, and unwavering faithfulness to the Lord not only inspired, but captured the hearts of children and adults wherever she went. She is forever loved and is now living in the glory of her beloved Savior. A celebration of Marilyn’s life will be held on October 8th, at Bayside Church Granite Bay, California at 1:00 p.m. in lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Bayside Care Ministries.
