John Michael Patterson

John Michael (Mike) Patterson 1946-2026 Mike Patterson, 80, of San Francisco and Rocklin, California died on April 7, 2026, in Rocklin. A private funeral will be held on April 30th at the Murray Family Funeral Chapel in Rocklin with burial in Rocklin Cemetery. A celebration of his life will occur on May 1st at 1:30PM at the Children's Discovery Museum in San Jose where he was a board member. Another celebration of life is scheduled near Washington, Iowa, in May with exact date and location to be determined. John Michael Patterson was born on March 6, 1946, in Washington, Iowa, the son of J. Kenneth, Jr and JoAnn (Ross) Patterson. He attended country school and then completed his elementary and high school education in the Mid-Prairie district, graduating in the class of 1964. He attended the University of Iowa with a major in accounting and graduated in 1968. He served in the army from 1968 to 1970. He married Sara Kephart in 1968 and had two children, Todd and Staci. He began his career at PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC) as an accountant in 1970 earning his CPA while attending law school at the University of Chicago and graduating in 1973. He continued his career at PWC by moving to San Jose, California. After the death of Sara Patterson, he married Marci Garner in 1979 and added daughters, Lori and Lisa, to his family. He owned the family farm northwest of Washington, Iowa, growing soybeans and corn, and collecting John Deere tractors. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren enjoyed spending time on the farm. He became a partner in PWC in 1982 and served as the San Jose Tax Practice Leader, Office Managing Partner of the San Jose office, and Co-chair of the High Technology Practice. He retired from PWC in 2001. After the death of Marci Patterson in 1998, he married Sandra Radtka from San Francisco, California in 2000. After retirement from PWC, he joined the Board of Directors at Xilinx Corporation serving from 2005 to 2020. Throughout his career, he volunteered in many community organizations such as the Montalvo Association, Children’s Discovery Museum, the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, and Antique Iowa Car Museum. He founded the San Jose Capital Club and served as its President. He especially enjoyed spending time with his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Tim, Marci Patterson and Sara Patterson. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Radtka in California; children Todd (Rene) Patterson and Staci (Jeff) Patterson Forcier in Iowa; children, Lori (Phil) Storment and Lisa (Jim) Ellis in California; brother Rob (Nancy), brother Tom, and sister Vickie Patterson in Iowa; sisters-in-law Kathy Patterson in Iowa and Susan Bologna in Michigan; and several nieces and nephews. He is survived by eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
